The Legislature has hired Stephen McAllister to serve as its attorney before the Kansas Supreme Court.
From the Wichita Eagle: Lawmakers sought to hire a full-time attorney amid concern they weren’t being represented in a seven-year-old school funding lawsuit. The job had been vacant for more than a decade. McAllister will be paid $325 an hour, up to $130,000 a year. “This is one of the best lawyers in the state,” said House Speaker Doug Mays, R-Topeka. House Minority Leader Dennis McKinney, D-Greensburg, also praised McAllister. “He’s someone who’s respected on both sides of the aisle.”
