New Charter Schools?

Could new charter schools be coming to Kansas? WIBW reports that in KCK, Pleasant Green Baptist Church and the North East Business Association are both working on proposals for a charter school.

The Kansas City Star provides more details on the proposed schools. The church’s plan calls for a college-prep elementary school. The business association hopes to “a special emphasis on political science and entrepreneurship.”

Of course, charter school applications must currently be approved by the districts in which the charter school is geographically located–and from which the school is most likely to draw students. That doesn’t give unified school districts a powerful incentive to approve charter school applications.
