Eat Cheeseburgers, Get Smart Board

The owner of 12 franchises of the Wendys hamburger chain have donated 27 Smart Board systems to schools in Kansas, including those in Liberal, Garden City, Dodge City, Hays, McPherson and Newton.

The owner of the franchises can do as she wishes, and we hope that the schools can make good use of the systems. But too many schools are mired in bureaucratic rules that tie the hands of school managers and teachers. Perhaps a more flexible environment for schools would have freed up enough money to buy these items without charity.
